An I/O Driver is an Elipse Gateway module that allows communication with a certain device using .dll files. These Drivers are developed by Elipse Software, as well as by third-parties, using a DDK (Driver Development Kit) provided by Elipse Software, in C/C++ language. Each Driver implements a family of different devices or protocols, according to the type of device or communication protocol. New Drivers are routinely developed by Elipse Software.

All configurations are performed on Driver's configuration tabs, where there are generic tabs, responsible for defining a communication layer and connection parameters, among others, in addition to protocol-specific tabs, responsible for configuring parameters related to a communication protocol.

When needed, Drivers can implement specific tabs to control or specify advanced configurations of a protocol, as shown on the next figure.
