An I/O Block is used to define information exchange with acquisition devices, and it contains one or more variables, as long as they are consecutive on the addressing of an external device.

Depending on the communication method used, I/O Blocks can spare communication time, retrieving a large number of updates in the same time interval when compared to an I/O Tag. I/O Blocks are configured using a series of B parameters (from B1 to B4) or using the Device and Item properties, which vary according to the I/O Driver used, in addition to the Size property, which defines the number of Elements or indexes available on a Block.

I/O Block Elements represent links for each one of the positions on an I/O Block, so that they are used as I/O Tags. I/O Block Elements may freely point to every index on an I/O Block.
