IEC 61850 Standard

The IEC 61850 Standard, officially published in 2004, quickly became a reference for SAS communication systems. Among its features, there is an interoperability among devices from different manufacturers, allowing interconnected IEDs to understand the syntax and semantics received from another device using the same technology. As a secondary feature, there is an interchangeability among devices from different manufacturers, that is, replacing IEDs from one manufacturer by another without major problems, which does not imply any changes to other componentes of the system. The main concepts handled by the IEC 61850 Standard are Structured Data, SCL Language and Mapping Abstract Services for Protocols.
