Objects with an xfPMRef type (please check PlantModel Library User's Manual) are Links or external references that work as shortcuts pointing to objects outside the data structure where these Links are.

The Faceplate Screen does not accept XML code containing nodes with an xfPMRef type, that is, nodes referencing external content. Therefore, when generating an XML file where the XMLTemplate property is equal to 3 (three, Faceplate), automatically the value of the XRefMode changes to 1 (one), to remove the shortcuts and merge the external content with the resulting XML code.
