Introduction

Aiming to reduce the on-holding time in input lines for alphanumeric systems, devices were created to allow input of off-line paging information and transmitting this data quickly after connecting to a central terminal. This protocol was formerly known as IXO alphanumeric protocol until it was adopted for input of paging requests. It is now referred as Telocator Alphanumeric Protocol (TAP).

TAP Driver for Elipse Software applications emulates a paging transaction from a specific device with a central, with that application performing the role of that central. A device can be for example a programmable logic controller (PLC), sending one or more informative messages.

A practical example is a Siemens S7-200 PLC connected to an EM 241 Modem module, accumulating pre-formatted messages that indicate temperature values in its memory addresses. An Elipse Software application, via TAP Driver, can connect to a device just like a paging central, by loading accumulated messages and releasing them in Text format for reading Tags.
