Preparing a Device

Next, there is an example of a connection between a computer executing an Elipse Software application and a GE-Fanuc PLC.

The items composing a GE-Fanuc PLC are the following:

A 10-SLOT BASE rack (IC693CHS391D)

A SERIES 90-30 POWER SUPPLY (IC693PWR321L)

A 90-30 CPU (IC693CPU331)

An RS-232 to RS-422 / RS-485 mini-converter (IC690ACC900)

A serial cable (IC690CBL702)

The steps to assemble these devices are the following:

1.Connect the SERIES 90-30 POWER SUPPLY and the 90-30 CPU to the 10-SLOT BASE Rack as explained on the document Series 90-30 Programmable Controller Installation Manual.

2.Connect the Mini-converter to the serial port of the SERIES 90-30 POWER SUPPLY.

3.Connect the serial cable to the Mini-converter and the computer's RS-232 port.

4.Connect the SERIES 90-30 POWER SUPPLY cable to a power supply. The front PWR LED should be turned on.

5.Use the LM90 program to configure this PLC and change its identifier. If LM90 throws a time-out error, there are errors on this device's installation. Please check the serial port that LM90 is using to communicate.

6.If the computer uses Elipse SCADA, create a GEFANUC.ID file, which must be created on the same folder of the application, containing the identifier programmed in LM90. For Elipse E3, Elipse Power, or Elipse Water, there is no need to create this file, because the PLC identifier can be configured directly on the Tags of an application.

7.Configure the I/O Tags on the application to supervise this PLC.
