Introduction

This Driver implements the C12.18 and C12.21 communication protocols, defined by ANSI (American National Standards Institute), requesting data from tables according to the description of the C12.19 standard, which allows Elipse Software products to communicate with power metering devices.

ANSI C12 is a set of standards for meters. ANSI C12.18 is an ANSI standard that describes a protocol used for two-way communications with a meter. C12.18 standard is written specifically for communications with meters via an ANSI type 2 optical port and specifies lower-level protocol details. ANSI C12.19 specifies the data tables to use. ANSI C12.21, on the other hand, is an extension of C12.18 protocol written for modem instead of optical communications.

This Driver was developed using Elipse Software's IOKit library. This library, after user configuration, is responsible for implementing the physical layer access, that is, Serial, Ethernet, Modem, or RAS. For more information, please check topic Documentation of I/O Interfaces.

Meters already tested with this Driver are Itron Sentinel and Elster A1800.
